The Astor Theatre was first open in 1921, the theatre was originally erected as the Primitive Methodist Church in late 1800’s, then converted to an indoor theatre, the first of its kind outside of Sydney. In 1954 the next significant development was the advent of CinemaScope. Equipped with state-of-the-art projection equipment and sound system, the Astor began advertising weekly films.
